This study evaluates the approach between the management of the power of influence of stakeholders on the project, in the framework of projects developed in the area of information technology through the application of the techniques of traditional project management. Thus, we developed four propositions, which supported the development of field research, by means of literature developed in the first part of the article. The research was conducted with three major IT companies, using the techniques of traditional project management for at least five years. The research methodology was based on multiple case study. Empirical evidence collected suggests that the concept of successful IT project, found in the classical literature, shows dependence on the management of the power of influence of stakeholders in this project.
