The information technology (IT) field has a high demand for qualified professionals due to innovations and technological changes to which it is submitted. However, job vacancies in this field don't get filled and that is not due to the lack of candidates, but mainly due to the fact that potential employees are unable to meet the requirements for the offered positions. This paper analyzes the flow of skilled workers to the IT labour market based on the number of students that graduate according to the Census of Tertiary Education (CES), published by INEP/MEC, relating it to the results obtained from the academic excellence measurement system, referred to as Conceito Preliminar de Cursos (CPC), also promoted and disseminated by INEP/MEC. The result of this analysis shows that the number of graduates from higher education institutions whose programs are in accordance with MEC guidelines for the Information Technology field falls short of projections of the number of skilled workers required by the market. The situation is exacerbated if one takes into account the number of entrants in the labor market that meet the quality criteria proposed by the CPC.
