ASSESSING ALTERNATIVES FOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR A COMPANY IN THE BANKING INDUSTRY

This paper describes an analysis of alternatives on product development process remodeling in a public financial institution. The process “as-is”, with problems, and alternatives for the process “as-should-be”, with potential benefits, are described, based on interviews with developers, documentation content analysis and participant observation in a few projects. Results shows that all the alternatives proposed have potential contributions to the analyzed organization and to other companies in the same field, namely improvements in efficiency and sustainability of the product development process. Some benefits can be highlighted, concerning each of the alternatives. Remodeling the process would improve security and the quality of product development, due to the need to define the conditions for connecting to the enterprise system and for the improvement on test performance, better clarity and legibility of documentation, better efficiency and flexibility of new product development, the existence of many pre-defined conditions that can be selected and combined to each other for the creation of the new product, improved sustainability of the entire process, improved maintenance and test conditions and, consequently, improved security, clarity and flexibility for the new process.
