DEVELOPMENT OF A SET OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOVERNANCE PROCESSES FOR A HOSPITAL

Abstract

The IT (Information Technology) area has a key role in implementing the strategy of companies, since virtually all of its processes are computerized. Allied to this is the fact that technological change is becoming increasingly complex the IT environment to be managed, so that increases the risks of the investments allocated for IT. Therefore, this article presents a set of IT governance processes aligned with the strategic business goals to a private hospital of medium size (more than 200 beds). For that, interviews were conducted with business executives to identify the IT objectives presented by Cobit framework which were more aligned with the strategic business objectives of the organization, ranking them in order of importance. On the other hand, interviews were conducted with CIO and IT staff to identify the IT governance processes based on Cobit framework that occurs empirically, classifying them by maturity level. These two sets of needs were crossed each other, generating the key IY governance processes to be adopted by the organization. It probably will bring the better return on IT investments and the strategic objectives established in a short-term (those that affect directly the strategic objectives), in a medium-term (implicitly) and long-term (tangential). The main contributions of this research are in data collections procedures used to identify the most appropriate IT governance processes of the organization which can serve as a guide for others applications in practices; and the formalization of a set of OT governance processes appropriate to this specific organization.
